Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Once you have completed your Private Pilot License, you are one step closer to realizing your dream of becoming a Commercial Pilot. Huron Flight Centre's Commercial Pilot Program has provided the skills and knowledge for many pilots successfully employed in the commercial aviation industry.

 

 

 

Requirements

1) Age An applicant shall be a minimum of eighteen years of age.

2) Medical Fitness and Validity 

An applicant shall hold a Category 1 Medical Certificate valid for a Commercial Pilot License - Aeroplane.

3) Knowledge

An applicant shall have:

(a) completed a minimum of 40 hours commercial pilot aeroplane ground school instruction.

(b) obtained a minimum of 60% in each of the following four mandatory subjects areas as well as in the overall written examination Commercial Pilot License - Aeroplane (CPAER):

4) Experience

(a) An applicant shall have completed, a minimum of 200 hours flight time in aeroplanes, of which a minimum of 100 hours shall be pilot-in-command time including 20 hours cross-country pilot-in-command flight time

(b) an applicant who holds a Private Pilot License shall have completed 65 hours of commercial pilot flight training in aeroplanes consisting of a minimum of:

(i) 35 hours dual instruction flight time, including:

(A) 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours of cross-country flight time;

(B) 5 hours cross-country, which may include the cross-country experience from (A) above; and

(C) 20 hours of instrument flight time in addition to the experience stated in (A) and (B) above. A maximum 10 hours of the 20 hours may be conducted on an approved aeroplane simulator or flight training device.

(ii) 30 hours solo flight time including:

(A) 25 hours solo flight time emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills of the applicant which shall include a cross-country flight to a point of a minimum of 300 nautical mile radius from the point of departure and shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure, and

(B) 5 hours solo flight time by night during which a minimum of 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings were completed.

(5) Skill

The applicant shall successfully complete a flight test to the standard outlined in the Flight Test Standard Private and Commercial Pilot Licenses - Aeroplanes (TP2655E).

3. The course hours above are the minimum times required by Transport Canada. Additional simulator or aircraft lessons may be added or revisited depending on the student's individual ability as assessed by their flight instructor. These extra lessons will be made at an additional cost.

4. Prices are approximate - individual costs will vary.

5. As previously mentioned, to obtain a Commercial License you must have 200 hours total time, which must include at least 100 hours pilot in command. Therefore, based on obtaining a private license at 55 hours, you must build an additional 80 hours of time before starting the Commercial Course.
